Let Austin Entertain you
One of Austin’s many nicknames is “The Live Music Capital of the World” and rightly so! Austin plays host to the yearly South by Southwest music festival in March every year and the Austin City Limits Music Festival each September.
South by Southwest (or SXSW) isn’t just a massive music festival, it also showcases a wide variety of film and interactive features as well. This event brings creative people from all over the world to share ideas and their creations.
Austin City Limits Music Festival is a three day event that celebrates art and music covering a wide variety of genres. This event usually includes about 130 musical acts and over 65,000 visitors each day of the festival.
The city also offers many nightlife options outside of the big annual musical events; Austin has a thriving nightlife that offers visitors and residents a selection of clubs and bars, amazing local restaurants, and cultural events.
The Bats of Austin
While the city has its share of celebrity homeowners, Austin is also famous for a different kind of resident, between 750,000 and 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats live in the city. These infamous residents take flight from beneath the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk every evening from mid-March to November. The bat colony lives in spaces beneath the structure of the bridge and has inspired the “Bats and Bridges” project that studies how to make bridges more welcoming to bat colonies. It is estimated that Austin’s bats bring in over $8 million a year in tourism dollars.
