9th Annual Austin Urban Music Festival
On Friday, March 28th and Saturday March 29th, Austin will host it’s 9th annual Urban Music Festival. The festival, an outdoor family oriented event held in Butler Park at Town Lake, will feature national, regional and local acts. Headlining the fest is Morris Day & The Time, SWV, Kool & The Gang, Larry Braggs and Cupid. Proceeds are benefiting the Soul Tree Collective, a Texas company that supports young Texan music students and is dedicated to keeping the R&B music genre alive in Texas. Ballet Austin Presents: 5th Biennial New American Talent/Dance Competition
From March 28th to March 30th, The Long Center for the Performing Arts will host Ballet Austin Presents: the 5th Biennial New American Talent/Dance Competition. Here, three of the best choreographers in the country will compete for a cash prize and national recognition in an interactive dance competition. Audience members will help decide the outcome of the competition by texting in their votes. The Austin Chronicle says, “There’s no dance showcase or competition quite like this in North America.” The outcome of this competition will accelerate the careers of these choreographers, and 12 winners have gone on to win national attention. Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays
From March 26, 2014 to March 28th, Austin will host the annual Texas Relays. Taking place at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium, athletes from all across the country will compete in track and field competitions. Come cheer on our Texas Longhorns, and enjoy some college sports competition! IHeart Radio Country Music Festival
Clear Channel Media and Entertainment brings the first-ever iHeartRadio Country Festival to the Frank Irwin Center on Saturday, March 29th. Second Annual Head for the Cure 5k
The second annual Head for the Cure 5k will be held on Sunday, March 30th, at Camp Mabry on 35th street. Dedicated to raising awareness and funding for research in the fight against brain cancer, the Head for the Cure foundation works to support the community of brain cancer patients. This includes their families, friends, caregivers, and other supporters, as well as the patients themselves. Registration for the race is $27 - $35, and goes toward the foundation.
