The holidays are in full swing here in Central Texas, although you wouldn’t know it by the unusually warm weather we’ve been experiencing. The Trail of Lights is open Downtown, and Congress Avenue is looking festive as always. There are way too many holiday events to name, so we decided to concentrate on our friends in the North! We’ve curated a list including some of the best Holiday activities in the areas of Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander and the surrounding areas.
3rd Annual Holiday Model Train Show – Now through Jan 2nd
Nothing evokes the feeling of childhood quite like model trains at Christmas. The Holiday Model Train Show will return to ArtSpace this holiday season, running now through Jan. 2nd. Last year over 7,000 people attended the event, operated by Tinplate Trackers, and they are expecting a great turnout this year too. The show runs through January 2nd, 2016 and trains will be running Wednesdays-Sundays, noon to 5 PM. Admission is FREE, but donations are welcome.

Mallach and Company’s Annual Santa Soiree – December 11th
Bring the family to Mallach and Company’s Santa Soiree for holiday treats, hot cocoa bar, hot apple cider, and get a photo taken with Santa! They will transform their office into a magical Christmas wonderland for all to enjoy. If you bring a donation to the Leander Police Departments Blue Santa program, you can take a free photo with Santa!bDonations such as new, unwrapped toys and games, blankets, gloves and hats, warm slippers and socks, space heaters and non-perishable food items, are encouraged. The event takes place Friday, December 11th, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.

Christmas in the Dog Park – December 12th
Christmas in the Dog Park is a bi-annual event where DogBoy’s Dog Ranch opens up its private dog park to the public. The event benefits the Austin Humane Society and celebrates DogBoy’s 20th Anniversary. Bring your friendly pups and family for pictures with Santa, the newly famous Savery Gourmet Grilled Cheese food truck, and access to a beautiful 5-acre dog park. Also, there will be an "Ask the Trainer" booth for all your doggie-related questions. It takes place this Saturday, Dec. 12th, 11 am - 2 pm. Entrance is free. To RSVP, go to dogboys.com/christmas.

Leander Trail of Lights Horseback Fundraiser (2 weekends!)
Open My World Therapeutic Riding Center will be hosting the Leander Trail of Lights on Horseback Fundraiser. Fun for the whole family, including campfires, s’mores, hot chocolate, visiting with Santa and, of course, riding the trail of lights on a horses back! The Leander Trail of Lights on Horseback is a fundraising event to fund scholarships for special needs children that are unable to afford Equine Therapy Sessions. Reserve your seat in the saddle, they go quickly! Dates are December 10th-13th and 17th-20th. The cost for adults is $35.00, and Kids $15.00, Family/Group rates are available. Feliz Navidad! A Celebration of Season & Culture – December 17th
The Round Rock Ballet Folklorico and Stony Point HS Mariachi will be a part of the 3rd annual holiday performance “Feliz Navidad, A Holiday Celebration”. The colorful costumes, dances, and vibrant music of Mexico and the holidays will make for a real Holiday Fiesta! Music by Moncayo, Marquez, Tchaikovsky, Anderson, Feliciano and more! The show is Thursday, Dec. 17th7-9pm and tickets will run you $20 for adults, $10 for students (with ID) and free for ages 5 and below.

The 21st Annual Share The Light Choral Concert and Luminary Walk – December 20th
Bring the whole family for a free holiday concert! Enjoy the songs of the holidays sung by local choirs. Honor or memorialize those special people in your life with a beautiful personalized luminary. The luminaries will light the path exiting the concert. All proceeds to benefit senior citizens in your community. The event takes place Sunday, Dec. 20th from 6:30-8:00 PM and the concert is admission free. If you'd like to purchase a luminary to memorialize your loved one they are $25/each.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Movie & Craft – December 21st
Dr. Seuss's holiday classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a favorite for many a family. Let your heart grow three sizes by watching the Grinch carve the roast beast in Whoville! Come for the movie, craft and some Grinch-related fun. No registration necessary and all ages are welcome. Come out on Monday, December 21st from 10 to 11 AM and bring the kiddos!

Stealing Christmas Musical – December 23rd & 24th
If you're feeling EXTRA Grinchy, you also don't want to miss out on Stealing Christmas - The Musical. Stealing Christmas is a FREE, fun-filled holiday musical production inspired by Dr. Suess’s, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas – but with a unique contemporary twist. Captain Hook and Ebenezer Scrooge band with Grinchy to help him steal Christmas once and for all. The event takes place Wednesday, December 23rd, 6 pm and 8 pm & Thursday, December 24th, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm.

Midnight Soiree – December 31st
Looking to get fancy in Georgetown this New Years Eve? Midnight Soiree is an ALL INCLUSIVE event to celebrate the coming of the new year! Dance the night away along side professional swing dancers and tunes from Austin’s own incredible award-winning modern day Big Band, “The Vintage 15”. Enjoy your favorite prohibition era cocktail or hand rolled cigar and belly up to one of 14 casino tables for some friendly competition and raffle prizes. Hors d’oeuvres and bit sized desserts will be served all night long. Enjoy a full open bar and a cheers to 2016 with a midnight champagne toast!
