HomeCity realtors and staff worked together with Supreme Lending on Wednesday, October 8th, to help build a house for Austin Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is anchored around their dedication to ending the cycle of poverty housing. They bring together volunteers to help build homes for families earning less than 60 percent of Median Family Income. The families then purchase the home from Austin Habitat and continue to pay an affordable, no profit, 30-year mortgage (which goes right back into the program).
After attending an orientation, the team of volunteers was allowed to work on the house. The team broke off into smaller groups that were trained to use individual tools and perform specialized tasks. They worked from 9am to 4pm that day painting, siding, measuring, sawing wood, installing an AC unit, and performing other home construction tasks. The team worked closely with other volunteers, as well as the future owners of the home who were putting in their required “sweat equity”.
HomeCity Real Estate’s commitment to community involvement is exemplified through its continued participation in community service events. Austin Habitat for Humanity encourages volunteers to get involved by participating in one of Habitat’s home builds, home repair projects, or neighborhood restorations. Members of the community can also give monetary donations online, and businesses can sponsor an event.
