We're in week two of "Movember", and the guys are doing great! For those of you who haven't heard, November is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, also know as "Movember". Men all over the world vow to grow moustaches or avoid shaving all of their facial hair to raise awarness for mens health. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of this event is to, "change the face of men's health."
Since we're in week two, here is some history on the origins of Movember. In 2004, the Movember Foundation started hosting Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues in Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United States.
Since then, the idea has spread from Australia to South Africa, Europe, and finally North America. As of 2011, Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. In 2010, Movember merged with the testicular cancer event Tacheback. In 2012, the Global Journal listed Movember as one of the top 100 NGOs (non-government organization) in the world.
Showing their support of Movember, our very own Seth, Mike, and Robb have been growing out their facial hair with pride! Here is our second update, 14 days into November.
