Running is a great way to stay in shape! Every year there are many marathon, half marathon, and 5k races held in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Courses range from tranquil lakeside trails to inner-city tracks, but all are scenic and rewarding. Whether you're training for your first 5k or a seasoned marathon enthusiast it's always handy to know what races are in your area. We've compiled a list of every marathon in the DFW area for your reference!
50k, 13.1M, 5k run. - March 1, 2015
Fort Worth hosts the Cowtown Marathon in March, offering several different race distances including a children’s 5k, adults 5 and 10k, as well as an Ultra Marathon, Marathon, and Half Marathon. This event is family oriented, with about 29,000 participants annually. The races start and end in Fort Worth’s cultural district, run through the Stockyards and Downtown, and circle TCU. Sign up for DFW’s first run of the year!
26.2M, 13.1, 10K, 5K, 1M run - April 4, 2015
The Irving Marathon held in Irving, TX and sponsored by GE, expects over 2,500 runners to compete this April. Their USATF certified course runs from the Irving Convention Center through Las Colinas, and ends running the Campion Trails. The entire course is paved, so runners don’t have to worry about “off roading”.
3.The Big-D Texas Marathon:

Dallas in spring is beautiful, and runners in the Big-D Marathon get to run one of its most scenic courses. Starting and ending on the historic grounds of the State Fair of Texas, the course takes you through the beautiful neighborhoods of White Rock Lake. After White Rock runners head to a part of the course that has tree-lined parks on one side and more beautiful homes on the other. Runners then head down Swiss Avenue that has the best homes of all! Whether you choose to run a marathon or a half marathon, this is sure to be a great experience.
4.The MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Marathon:
26.2M run - May 23, 2015
A part of the Running the Distance LLC’s Texas Threesome Marathon series, this run prides itself on being a “small, no frills” race for those that just love to run! The course for this run is flat with only 3 or 4 small rises each loop and views of Bachman Lake. Every three miles are stocked with Gatorade, water, pretzels, bananas and more!
5.Jim’s Goose Chase Marathon:
26.2M run - May 24, 2015
Also a part of the Running the Distance LLC’s Texas Threesome Marathon, the Jim’s Goose Chase Marathon is on the same course as the MS Marathon above, but the day after. Race fees are between $60 and $80 dollars, depending on when you sign up!
6.The Bachman Memorial Day Marathon:
26.2M run - May 25, 2015
The third installment of the Running the Distance Texas Threesome Marathon is held on Memorial Day and on the same course as the MS Marathon and Jim’s Goose Chase on Bachman Lake.
7.Fort Worth Marathon:
26.2M run/walk, 20M, 13.1M run - Nov 8th, 2015
This annual marathon is a non-profit whose mission is to raise funds for programs that promote exercise and health in the Fort Worth community (primarily in public school systems). Their course is certified by the USA Track and Field association and can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon! The course begins and ends at LaGrave Field, and includes track along Trinity Trails before turning around at Benbrook. With tons of cash prizes and a less than 100.00 entry fee, this marathon is a great one for the more serious runner.
8.The Texas Quad: The Walk:
26.2M, 13.1M run - Nov 26th, 2015
This is day one of the Running the Distance Texas Quad Marathon. On each day of the race marathon and half marathon distances are offered. Despite its name, participants are encouraged to run as much as they can. Runners can register for one day or all four! Those who finish the race get a custom medal upon completion daily, as well as shirts and delicious snacks along the way!
9.The Texas Quad: The Waddle:
26.2M, 13.1M run - Nov 27th, 2015
Day two of the Running the Distance Texas Quad Marathon, The Waddle traverses the same course as the Texas Threesome (and all of the Running the Distance courses) on Bachman Lake. Runners make 8 laps around the lake, but don’t expect to get bored. The trail is lined with beautiful trees that turn colors in the fall!
10.The Texas Quad: The Tortoise:
26.2M, 13.1M run - Nov 28th, 2015
Day three of the Running the Distance Texas Quad Marathon is known as The Tortoise, and takes place on the same beautiful Bachman Lake course as the other Running the Distance courses. Also the same is the price for entry. All Running the Distance courses cost between $60 and $80 depending on when you sign up!
11.The Texas Quad: Charlie’s Snake Wrangling Marathon:
26.2M, 13.1M run - Nov 29th, 2015
Day four of the Running the Distance Texas Quad Marathon is the Charlie’s Snake Wrangling Marathon. Runners who have participated this race (which is always on the same course) all four days win a belt buckle, while the daily winners still win a small medal.
26.2M run/relay, 13.1M run - Dec 13, 2015
Held on a Sunday, this marathon offers its participants a unique running experience. The course, which is both hilly and flat, runs through downtown Dallas as well as the area around White Rock Lake. Along the way runners can see historic landmarks, beautiful scenery and cityscapes. The Dallas Marathon is the first leg of the Marathons of Texas series, which includes the Houston Marathon and the Austin Marathon.
26.2M, 13.1M, 5K run - Dec 19, 2014
This marathon held in Dallas and consists of a marathon, half marathon, and 4k. The course is held at “The Lakes” in Dallas which is near Southwestern Blvd, and there will be juice and snacks offered along the way!
14.Whine Not a Marathon:

The Whine Not a Marathon and Half and the Whine Not Another Marathon and Half are a part of the Running the Distance LLC’s “The Texas Double” marathon series. For between $60 and $80 (depending on when you buy your tickets). Just like the Texas Threesome and The Texas Quad, these marathons are small, relaxed runs thrown just for the love of running!
