Carrollton- Farmers Branch Independent School District is made up of 53.42 square miles in northwest Dallas County (with a small portion being southeast Denton County.) The school districts boundaries aren’t the same as the municipal boundaries; therefore, C-FBISD serves students who live in portions of Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell, Dallas, and Irving. The total student enrollment is at about 26,370, spread out over 25 elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools, and two alternative education centers. Throughout the district, they have over 3,250 staff members employed the majority of them being at the elementary level.

The TEA has rated C-FBISD a Recognized district for it’s second year in a row. 12 campuses received Exemplary ratings, and 19 campuses got Recognized ratings. Polls show that C-FB ISD parents are extremely satisfied with the district (90% satisfied with their child’s campus and 88.6% with the district overall.) The districts attendance rate was 96%, and the graduation rate continues to improve being 87.3% in 2010. The districts vision is that, “All students will meet the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) at the satisfactory or advanced level and graduate college- ready and/or workforce ready without remediation.

Schools in C-FB ISD

High schools:

Creekview High School: Creekview High has become a well-established school with many special traditions, honors and awards since opening a decade ago. The 2010 senior class includes students who qualified for recognition in the National Merit Program, and over 90% of the students in the class plan to attend a college or university after graduating. The Dallas Morning News even wrote a front-page article about how students who graduated from Creekview on average made higher grades in their first year of college than most students. Students at this school have the opportunity to participate in programs such as a winning Mock Trial team, as well as a competitive Academic Decathlon team. Their athletics program is also successful, offering sports like football, baseball, cheer, golf, and swimming.

Early College High School: Opening in 2005 ass a partnership between Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and Dallas Community College District’s Brookhaven College, ECHS is located on the Brookhaven College Campus in Farmers Branch. Their goal is to have each student graduate from high school with a minimum of 42 core college hours or an associate’s degree. Nearly half of the nine teachers possess a master’s degree and two are certified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to teach dual-credit classes. While the campus doesn’t offer an athletics program, the school offers extracurricular such as student council, yearbook production, eco club, and intermural soccer teams.

Ranchview High School: At Ranchview High, their goal is to have every student graduate prepared to pursue the post secondary education of his or her choice with the tools needed to succeed in a global society. Their school was rated Recognized by the TEA, and they offer an international baccalaureate program to their students. Their students also have an opportunity to participate in a competitive athletics program offering sports like football, baseball, track, cross-country, golf and powerlifting. Ranchviews fine arts department is also recognized, having a well-known band program, choir program, theater program, and school drill team.

Newman Smith High School: Founded in 1975, NSHS serves approximately 2000 students. Smith has distinguished itself as one of America’s top high schools with one of the best fine arts/performing arts programs around. The school has won many awards over the past 37-years including being named a Texas Blue Ribbon School and a U.S. Department of Education New American High School. They offer students a curriculum that includes 26 AP courses, a Gifted/Talented program, an advanced foreign language program, and dual credit classes. Newman smith was rated one of America’s Top High Schools by the Washington Post/Newsweek Magazine several times, and was on the “D” Magazine Best High Schools List. Students also have the opportunity to participate in an athletics program as well as many extra-curricular activities and clubs.

Turner High School: Turner High hopes to help every student graduate in four years ready for college, career and life! Opening in 1963, it serves grades 9 – 12 with approximately 2200 students. The school was rated Recognized by the TEA, and has won many awards for academic achievement. Their athletic program is extremely dedicated; and their football team has won many district titles. Their soccer team really stands out, winning the District 19 – AAAA Championship in 09’ and 2011.
