Farmersville is situated 35 miles northeast of Dallas and although growing steadily as a part of the rapidly expanding Collin County, has still retained much of its rural flavor. Originally named for its resident's chief occupation, the city of Farmersville (with its near 3500 inhabitants) is just big enough and just close enough to Dallas to provide the perfect rural suburban lifestyle- a safe, quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city but just close enough to enjoy its fruits.

Farmersville is a charter member city of the North Texas Municipal Water District and owner of its own electrical system. Audie Murphy, the United States' most decorated combat soldier of World War II and star of the 1955 motion picture "To Hell And Back", while not born in Farmersville, spent much of his childhood in the city and its surrounding areas. A memorial to his legacy stands in downtown Farmersville today.
