McKinney Independent School District is headquartered in the town of McKinney, TX which is the county seed of McKinney County. In addition to McKinney, MISD serves the town of New Hope and parts of Allen, Fairview, Lovejoy, Weston, Princeton, and Lowery Crossing. MISD has earned a strong reputation for academic excellence and for developing well-rounded students. It is one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas and currently enrollskids at McKinney ISD over 24,000 students in 28 schools. The community of McKinney strongly values having exemplary public schools, and supports the school system through funding and voting on important issues. In 2005 the 90 percent of the community voted to expand MISD to McKinney Boyd High School, one new middle school, and four new elementary schools.

MISD schools have received a TEA rating of Recognized, with 26 of 27 campuses receiving and Exemplary or Recognized rating. Students at MISD perform in the top 2 percent in Texas in achieving Commended Performance on TAKS, and four campuses are National Blue Ribbon Schools. Their schools have state and national recognition for their UIL programs every year, and they are 1 of only 388 districts in the nation to be named by the College Board of AP Achievement list. High Schools:

McKinney Boyd High School: McKinney Boyd is located on Lake Forest Blvd (just north of Virginia Parkway), and is the districts third high school built. Their enrollment is at 2,988 students, and their principal is Rick McDaniel. The Campus has many accommodating facilities like a boy’s baseball field, girls softball field, football practice field with a track, eight tennis courts, a competition gym and a practice gym, a cafetorium, a black box theatre, and a library. McKinney Boyd is a TEA Recognized school.

McKinney High School: McKinney High opened in 1986 and serves about 2,104 students. It is located about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, and is the original of the three public high schools. Their teachers have a total of 889 years of experience, and of the 141 teachers, 24 have taught on that campus for more than 10 years. They are rated Academically Acceptable by the TEA and offer AP courses, dual enrollment courses, and many extracurricular activities.

McKinney North High School: Located on Wilmeth Road, just west of Highway 75, MNHS opened it’s doors as a ninth grade center in 2004. McKinney North is the second high school built, and has established a strong tradition of excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities. Their principal is Mr. Jimmy Spann, and their student enrollment is at 1,886. They are a TEA Recognized school, and have a very successful athletics department as well as many clubs and organizations for students to join.

Middle Schools:

Cockrill Middle School: Cockrill opened in 2008, and has an enrollment of 1,239 students. They received a TEA rating of Academically Acceptable, and offer many athletics and fine arts activities.

Dowell Middle School: They pride themselves on fostering a collaborative culture that encourages students, teachers, parents, staff, and community members to be involved. It opened in 1995, and has an enrollment of 1,192 students. They received a TEA rating of Academically Acceptable, and offer great fine arts and athletics programs.

Evans Middle School: Evans opened in 2004, and has a student enrollment of around 1,415. They received a TEA rating of Academically Acceptable and offer activities like drill team, athletics, band, and journalism.

Faubion Middle School: Faubion opened in 1958, and was one of the first middle schools in McKinney. Their student enrollment is at 960 and they received a TEA rating of Academically Acceptable. They offer athletics, fine arts, and UIL activities.

Johnson Middle School: Johnson opened in the year 2000 and their student enrollment is at 890. They received a TEA rating of Recognized, and offer athletics as well as many fine arts extracurricular.
