Homes for sale in Red Oak, TX

Located just 20 miles south of Dallas on Interstate Highway 35 in Ellis County is the charming suburban community of Red Oak. Originally named Possum Trot in 1844 (because of the abundance of possums in the area), the city was quickly renamed for obvious reasons in 1849. In 1967, Red Oak was used as a site for three days of filming for the motion picture "Bonnie and Clyde" starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, one of several cities in the area to be part of the films making. Currently Red Oak is a city on the rise. In 2000 the census counted the population at 4,301 people and today (just 7 years later) the population is believed to be more near 6,200. The North Central Texas Council of Governments projects that number to grow to 63,329 by the year 2030, as Red Oak is on the verge of an explosive suburban growth. Its close proximity to downtown Dallas and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport make it a prime commuter location for those working in Dallas but not wanting to live in its urban center. As the metroplex begins to grow, the close lying suburbs will be first to experience significant growth, and Red Oak is at the top of that list. Students living in Red Oak attend schools in the Red Oak Independent School District.
