If small town Texas suburban living had a proper name, it might very well be Wilmer. This city located fourteen miles southeast of downtown Dallas offers commuter style living (with a large percentage of residents traveling to Dallas or surrounding areas daily for work), with all the big city conveniences just a short drive away. Wilmer is home to Union Pacific's "Union Pacific Dallas Intermodal Terminal", a 70 million dollar shipping facility that that rests on the border of Wilmer and Hutchins. Children living in the Wilmer area are now served by the Dallas Independent School district which took over in 2005 after the closing of the Wilmer Hutchins Independent School District.
